Why do I do this?

Bottom Line: I do this for fun. I started this site because I loved logos and I love the idea of the Original Helmet Project. I like to keep busy, but I try to get a few helmets up every couple of days from July to Christmas. I have used this site as a tool to improve my graphics skills and it has worked. Growing up here in Ohio, I have known full well how much Ohio loves its high school football, but I never imagined that this site would gain the momentum it has. As a side effect, I now have an intimate knowledge of our great state's geography.

This site was opened in October 2001 and it is far from finished. In reality, this site will never be "finished". According to my calculations, there are over 700 football programs in the state of Ohio (the Columbus area seems to add at least one a year) and high schools change their look much more frequently than colleges or pros. When new coaches are brought in, you can bank on a change being made. Some schools even let their senior class decide what stripes and decal the team will wear. I plan to document all of those changes as well as historical helmets as far back as possible.

While all of the illustrations at this site are the work of the author, this site will never get anywhere near "completion" without the help of many visitors to it, such as yourself. If you find this subject interesting and have information that may help me improve the site, please do so! Click here for instructions on how you can help. I especially appreciate information from athletic directors, coaches, equipment managers, current and former players, and others who have access to the most accurate current and historical information about the teams covered at this site. Due to the number of teams, the immediate focus is to recreate the current helmets that are being worn. If you have any historical information, I would be more than happy to eventually include it as well. The basic period covered by this site is 1960 to present.

I also have plans on making a logo only section and possibly a list of nicknames, but that is down the road. I love this stuff!
