According to Coach Dempsey, everything on the 2007 logo has a special meaning:

The shield has 12 rivots, representing the 11 players on the field and the fan in the stands.
The 4 cracks in the shield... represent the other four teams in their conference division.
The axe represents the "T" for Tartans.
The "E" represents East.
The Celtic symbol in the middle of the axe head is the sign for unity or brotherhood.
